SPRINGFIELD – Frances E. Zeigler, 88, of Springfield died at 9:18 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.
She was born May 8, 1920, in Springfield, the daughter of Chester and Anna Smith Pierce. She married Gerald J. Ziegler on May 18, 1946; he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2007.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Bryce Pierce.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathy (husband, Dale) Royer of Horn Lake, Miss., Mary Jane (husband, Dwight) Menely of Springfield and Janet (husband, Gary) Bliefnick of Petersburg; a son, James (wife, Karen) Zeigler of Springfield; eight grandchildren; a brother, Chester (wife, Rosie) Pierce of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frances was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She worked for the Sangamon County clerk and also was a legal assistant for the attorney general’s office.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and was formerly involved with Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and the Altar and Rosary Society and was an active volunteer at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at her church. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time funeral Mass at noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. David Hoefler officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Home or Blessed Sacrament Church.
