SPRINGFIELD – Fern E. Schoenherr, 92, a resident of Springfield for most of her adult life, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1915, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Edith Nelson Kennedy. She married George G. Schoenherr on June 4, 1939, to whom she was married for 65 years. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2004. Her parents; son, George Michael Schoenherr; four brothers; and a sister also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Schoenherr was a homemaker. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and traveling. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her son, James A. (wife, Diana) Schoenherr of Petersburg; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (wife, Geraldine) Kennedy of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Remains will lie in state from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Dahlby officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Home of Springfield Building Fund.
