SPRINGFIELD – Fern Delores Vespa, 89, of Springfield, died at 1:34 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Springfield, the daughter of Lawrence William and Carrie Elizabeth Stevens Schweiss. She married Arthur J. Vespa on May 19, 1947; he preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1972.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold L. Schweiss.
She is survived by a niece, Sharon (husband, Keith) Schroeder of Springfield; a cousin, Nancy Gray of Springfield; and several
great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
She was a resident of Springfield for the past three years. She previously wintered every year in Florida. She worked at IDOT as a secretary and at Pinellas County School as district secretary. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to go fishing, golfing and bowling and was well known for her sense of humor.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral services will begin after visitation at 11 a.m. with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Joseph’s Home.
