Evan Bryce ‘Davy’ Davison, 88, of Springfield, died at 5 am, Friday, November 12, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born November 8, 1922 in Jacksonville, Missouri to Evan Thomas and Mable D. Reed Davison. He married Evelyn E. Malensky on September 22, 1946 and she preceded him in death after 62 years of marriage on December 15, 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents and step father James Pearson.
Survivors include one daughter, Suellen (Bob) Taylor of Decatur; one son James T. ‘Jungle Jim’ Davison of Springfield; five grandchildren Dee Dee Davison, Janice Taylor, Ben (Laura) Griffeth all of Springfield and Angie (Jamie) Davies and Jamie Rhodes of Decatur; five great grandchildren, Trevor Gandy of Springfield, Zac Davies, Brycen Rhodes, and Ashlynn Davies all of Decatur and Connor Griffeth of Springfield; one sister Ruby Cheever of Clinton, IN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evan was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran serving in WWII. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church; Riverton Union Lodge #786; Scottish Rite; Ansar Shrine Directors Staff; Capitol City Shrine Club; Anchor Boat Club and VFW Post 755.
He was a resident of Springfield since 1946 and was a supervisor and Lineman for CILCO retiring in 1982 after 36 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, loved going to lunch every day with his son and enjoyed spending winters at his home in Florida.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, November 15, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral: 11 am, Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Chaplain Sr. Maira Barry, O.P. officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
Memorial may be made to Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital.
