Eugene R. "Pappy" Canady

Eugene R. “Pappy” Canady, 56, of Springfield, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born August 12, 1960 in Springfield, IL to John E. Sr. and Evelyn Mae Frederick Canady.

Surviving are his six children, Amber Durheim, Adam, Cory, Alyssa, Jamie, and Grace Canady; two step- daughters, Jasmine and Jordain Bumpus; five grandchildren; five brothers, Phillip Canady, Thomas and Dan Davis, Rich, Art and Don Canady, all of Springfield and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Juliann Canady; one sister, Barbara Lewis and two brothers, Jack and Jimmy Canady.

Eugene was a lifelong resident of Springfield and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He worked for Averitt Company as a Truck Driver. Eugene served as a veteran in the United States Marine Corps. He was a loyal member of the Rat Pack and also belonged to the VFW.

Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Monday, April 3, 2017 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Fiore Bellmonte, Brother Wally Rhodes and Brother Phillip Canady officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
