Gene “Bunk” Gallant, Jr., 71, of Springfield passed away at 6:42 am, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1945 in Springfield to Eugene Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Mulrooney) Gallant. He married Linda Kay Sebring on June 17, 1967.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Gallant; two daughters, Renee (Brent) Rothschild of Savannah, GA and Cheryl (Vic) Gairani of St. Charles, MO; one son, Michael Gallant of Springfield; three granddaughters, Megan (Shawn) Shuff of Atlanta, GA, Ginger Gairani and Isabella Gairani both of St. Charles, MO; two great-grandchildren, Lilith Shuff and Freya Shuff; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his parents; three sisters, Betty Gallant, Norma Winch, and Lorraine Gallant.
Gene retired after 32 years of service as a signal maintainer for C&IM Railroad.
He was a member of St. Cabrini Church in Springfield. He enjoyed being an extra class HAM operator with the call sign “WB9LHD”. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, storm chasing, and was a life-long NRA member.
Memorial Service: 10 am, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. Cabrini Church with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
