Ernestine "Gallie" Johnson

Ernestine “Gallie” Johnson, 92, of Springfield, died at home at 11:20pm Sunday, April 29, 2018. She was born April 20, 1926 in Riverton to Carmine and Mary (Cocciolone) Marcketti. She married Charles R. Johnson, Jr. on August 17, 1946 and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1991.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Janice J. Johnson of Springfield, Mardi (John) Haas of Elkton, FL, and Lisa (Randy) Knox of Chatham; three grandchildren, Jenna (Calvin) Berkwit Smith, Rachel Knox, and Joel Knox; one great-grandchild, Mason Berkwit; one sister-in-law, Marian Johnson; one brother-in-law; C.R. (Rosa) Johnson and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gallie was a bookkeeper at Sangamo Electric and also worked at The Pool Center. She attended St. Agnes Church.

She enjoyed coloring, playing bridge, reading and traveling.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Friday, May 4, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Wayne Stock officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
