Ernest M. Britton, 88, of Springfield, died at 1:08 pm, Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born July 23, 1922 in Ewing, IL to Thomas and Clara Odom Britton. He married Minnie B. Winstead on August 29, 1942. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Bertha Provart Britton, 2 brothers; Carl and Earl Britton. He is survived by 1 daughter, Donna Kaye (James) Bruner of Jacksonville, 1 son James Jim (Carole) Britton of Springfield, 7 grandchildren; Robert, James, Susan and David Bruner and J.T. Joshua and Zachery Britton, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ernest was a member of Westside Christian Church. Ernest was a United States Army veteran. He was a resident of Springfield since 1952. He lived in Lincoln for 10 years. He worked for Certain-TEED Products for 15 years as a Territory Representative. For 10 years he owned and operated Angelo’s Italian Restaurant in Lincoln. He also worked in the Lawn and Garden Department at Sears for 15 years.
Burial will be at Old Salem Cemetery.
