Ella Mae Vala, 87, of Riverton died at 2:23 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Mount Olive, the daughter of Paul and Mary Spudich Kreevich. She married Martin J. Vala on April 10, 1943.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Barbara Suchy, Ann Perez, Mary Prigmore and Amelia Kreevich; and a brother, John Kreevich.
She is survived by her husband, Martin J. Vala of Riverton; a son, Dennis (Kathy) Vala of Chatham; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Keegan and Jason (Courtney) Vala, both of Chicago, and Alissa Vala (fiance, Ben Fuhrmann) of Collinsville; a great-grandson, Zackary; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ella was a resident of Riverton since 1947 and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Church in Riverton and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed cooking and had great a collection of cookbooks. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and Branson, Mo. She loved spending time with her family and friends and dining out and attended most of her grandchildren’s events. She loved dancing with her husband, Marty, and enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing, and was a member of P.O.L.K. of A.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
