SPRINGFIELD – Elizabeth Betty Rogers, 79, of Springfield passed away at 12:42 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 25, 1928, in St. Louis, the daughter of Otto and Katherine Herman. She married William G. Altman in April 1951, and they had four children together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by William Altman, as well as her son, Michael, brother, Otto Herman Jr., and stepson, Martin Rogers Jr.

On a scholarship, Betty attended Fontbonne University in St. Louis and was an elementary schoolteacher for a time in metro St. Louis.

In October 1968, she married Martin J. Rogers, who had seven children from a previous marriage.

Betty was a member of Christ the King Parish, where she was active in the Arts and Crafts Club and Funeral Luncheon Groups. She was also involved with Home Extension’s Goodtimers Unit, a member of the interfaith caregivers and the Red Hat Ladies.

Surviving are her husband; nine children; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at Christ the King Church. She will lie in state from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Christ the King Church with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis.
