Elvis J. Tucker
SPRINGFIELD – Elvis J. Tucker, 73, of Springfield, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born March 24, 1934 in Bay, AR, the son of Walter and Emily Melton Tucker. He married Melba M. Craggett on October 6, 1961; she preceded him in death on May 18, 2006. His parents and one sister, Sylvia Pyatt, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Tucker retired from Byerly Music at White Oaks Mall. He later retired from Napa Auto Parts. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict for which he received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Star Clusters. He was an accomplished musician in the late 50s, 60s, and 70s for several county and western bands in the St. Louis area. He played organs and pianos at the mall. He loved spending time with his grandkids and playing the slot machines with his late wife. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and woodworker.
Survivors: two daughters, Recenia Tucker of Springfield and Regina (husband, Mark) Alex of Springfield; two sons, Tom Callahan of Springfield and Gaylen Wilcoxson of Bonnieville, KY; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wyoma Berg of St. Louis, MO, Linda Stotts of Elvins, MO, and Marilyn Rhodes of Jonesboro, AR; one brother, Charles (wife, Sally) Tucker of Poplar Bluff, MO; one sister-in-law, Becky Ray of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to any veterans’ organization or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007, Clint Cook officiating. Burial: Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors. Staab Funeral Home of Service.
