What a grand and glorious homecoming there must have been on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 12:50 pm, when Eleanor J. Nelson departed this earth to join our Heavenly Father, along with many of her family and friends. Eleanor was born July 2, 1936 in Springfield, to Fred and Allie Mumbower Thompson. She met her lifelong love and sweetheart, Charles W. Nelson and they were married September 1, 1956. They had two children, Mark G. Nelson of Springfield and Marilyn J. Spencer (Craig Fout) of Sebring, FL. Grandchildren are: Stephanie Spencer and Allie Nelson of Springfield and Shane (Katherine) Spencer of Sebring, FL; two great grandchildren, Jenna Acres and Grace Spencer and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gerald Thompson.
Eleanor lived her life for her family and church. She will be remembered for her infectious smile and crystal blue eyes. She loved to cook and read with her dog, Cassie at her side and enjoyed her nightly talks with her lifelong best friend, “Old Marilyn”.
The family will host a celebration of life at 11 am, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Eastview Baptist Church, 2277 E. Black Ave., with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastview Baptist Church or a Charity of the Donor’s choice.

Charles and family, I thank God for the gift of meeting Eleanor and all of you. It was a short time, but I was so inspired by her love, faith and friendship that never ends. I am so glad you could be together on your 60th wedding anniversary. My prayers are with you, and I will try to keep in touch. Sister Carol
