Eleanor Irene Tolan, 86, of Pleasant Plains, died at 10:08 am, Monday, December 2, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born December 5, 1926 in Springfield to Edward A. and Viola Farrand Smith. She married Max A. Tolan in 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Her parents; two brothers, Harold L. and Edward Smith, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Tom) Grosboll of Petersburg; three sons, Mike (Chevonne) Tolan of Pleasant Plains, Doug Tolan of Pleasant Plains and Randy (Leann) Tolan of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Rachelle (Mike) Snopko of Kiel, Germany, Dr. Angela (John) Schilsky of Dallas, TX, Natalie (Brian) Mitchell of Springfield, Nathan (Jodi) Grosboll of Petersburg, Ryan Grosboll of Petersburg, Cassie Tolan of Pleasant Plains, Chelsea Tolan of New Berlin, Troy Tolan of Athens, GA, Jackie Tolan of Morrisonville, IL, Lindsey Becker of Divernon and Eric Becker of Springfield; eight great grandchildren, Nadia, Caroline, Gavin, Claire, Aiden, Reese, India and Kate; one sister, Lavena McDonald of DeForest, WI; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Mullady and Mary Tolan of Springfield and Marjorie Tolan of Indiana and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eleanor enjoyed sewing and was a great cook. She loved to swim, ice skate and dance. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very strong Christian and loved the Lord.
She owned and operated Max’s Place in Salisbury with her husband. She worked at Federated Funeral Directors and the State of Illinois for many years.
Visitation: 5-8 pm, Friday, December 6, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Second Visitation: 10-11 am Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Merle “Tony” Buerkett officiating. Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
