Edward L. Evans, Jr., 86, of Springfield died at 8:30 am, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born March 15, 1924 in Auburn, IL to Edward and Hazel Arbuckle Evans, Sr. He married Ruth Ann Suttory on December 16, 1972 at South Side Christian Church and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Jean (Chuck) Oberreiter of New Berlin and Donna (Rob) Argus of Germany; five granddaughters and one grandson, Carrie (Mark) Smith, Mindie (Jeff) Nesch, Ernie Joe and Amanda Doud, Christine and Sarah Argus; three great-grandchildren Nicole and Carlie Smith and Riley Nesch; one brother Donald (Joyce) Evans of Godfrey; two sisters-in-law Pat (Kevin) Eddington of Irving and Peggy Evans of Springfield; one brother-in-law Gene (Theresa) Suttory of St. Peters, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents; one daughter Judy Doud (1985) and one brother Bill Evans (2001) preceded him in death.
Edward was a resident of the Springfield area. He was involved in road construction his whole life. He was the former owner of Strata Paving. He was a member of Operators Local #965. Edward was a World War II veteran serving in the Army. He enjoyed auto racing and playing horseshoes.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral: 9 am, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home, Reverend Peter Harman officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
