Dr. Kunnuvila Yohannan John

Dr. Kunnuvila Yohannan John “Johny”, 73, of Springfield died at 11:09 am, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October 10, 1944 in Kerala, India to Koshy and Mariamma Yohannan. He married Dr. Mary Kurien on April 27, 1970 and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Dr. Ashish (Teena) John of Springfield and Dr. Anish (Kiran) John of Chicago; two grandchildren, Ashwin and Simran John; siblings, Y. Koshy (Annamma Koshy), Gracy Mathew (late Mr. P.S. Mathai) and Leelamma Philip (late Mr. G. Philipose) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Y. George and K.Y. Jacob.

After graduating from Dental School in India, he worked locally at a private practice before moving to New York, where he owned and worked in his own practice. He then moved to Dubai in 1987 and initially worked in the Department of Health before opening up his own private practice. He lived there with his wife until they both retired and moved to Springfield, Illinois in August, 2016 to be closer to his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed gardening, listening to music, cars and ‘gadgets’, but mostly treasured spending time with his wife and family, who adored him.

He will always be remembered as a man of great integrity, faith and love. He was passionate about helping anyone and everyone that needed assistance, and was known to have been selflessly instrumental in the lives of countless family and friends. His dedication to God remained of great importance to him throughout his life and is carried forward by his family.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10 am Monday, December 11, 2017. Location to be announced. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.
