Dorothy V. Carbiener, 85, of Springfield, died at 4:30 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital. She was born March 1, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois to James and Anna Longen Armour, Sr. She married John L. Carbiener, Sr. on March 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2001. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, James; one infant sister and one brother James “Bud” Armour.
She is survived by one daughter, Diann (Bill) Burlison of Greenview, Illinois; two sons, John Carbiener, Jr. and Mark (Pam) Carbiener both of Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Carol Carbiener of Zion, IL; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters Margaret and Mary Armour both of Springfield; two brothers Charles “Duffy” (Sandy) Armour of Springfield and Tony (Carol) Armour of Mason City, Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Church and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and AARP. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, doing puzzle books and writing poetry. She was a lifelong resident of Springfield and was a homemaker.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Stephen Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
