Dorothy May Forman, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at St. John’s Hospice after an extended illness. She was born on January 26, 1923 to John and Bessie Whitehurst Lowe in Springfield. She married Paul Forman on December 2, 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Paul passed away on October 23, 1979.
Dorothy worked for Sangamo Electric for 20 years and then worked for the Springfield School District for 15 years. She retired at age 68. Although Dorothy had no children of her own, she lovingly cared for her brother, John M, Lowe, in her home until his death. She also provided assistance to other family members who were sick or suffering. She was a member of Kumler United Methodist Church in Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Siebert G. and John M. Lowe and three sisters, Rhoda Johnson, Esther Custer and Florence Warren. She is survived by one sister, Betty E. Ackerman of Tempe, AZ; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth E. Lowe of Sherman as well as several nieces and nephews. For the past several years, she was lovingly cared for by her great nephews, Jeremy Lowe of Springfield and John Lowe of Sherman and her niece, Sharol Lowe of Springfield.
Visitation: 12:00 ” 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastoral Assistant Anita Ashcroft presiding. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
