SHERMAN – Dorothy E. Luthin, 94, of Sherman died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, with dignity and peacefully in her sleep at Regency Nursing Care Residence.
She was born April 9, 1915, in Quincy, the daughter of Fred H. and Ida Marie Vahle Meyer. She married Karl E. Luthin Jr. May 3, 1941; he preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, Milton, Robert, Walter, Harold and Fred; and a sister, Edna Hehmeyer.
Mrs. Luthin was a resident of the Sherman and Springfield area for most of her life. She worked at the Illinois Department of Public Health for 20 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and currently attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Riverton with her family. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Loess Rock Club. She was a St. John’s Samaritan. She formed many friendships at Hickory Glenn/Oak Terrace, where she lived for five years. The family would like to thank everyone at the Regency for their care and support.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Ann (husband, John) Iler of Sherman; a son, Dr. Karl E. (Candy) Luthin, DVM, of Riverton; two grandchildren, Kimberly A. Luthin (husband, C.J. Hungerman) and Kate A. Luthin; and a niece, Gladys (Harold) Schutte of Quincy.
Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be there at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, with the Rev. Michael Koschman officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
