SPRINGFIELD – Dorothy C. Szabo, 78, of Springfield passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 peacefully at home with family at her side. She will have eternal life with our Lord in Heaven and remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
She was born December 18, 1930 in Assumption, Illinois the daughter of Edward and Helen McCormick Chasco. She married Carl J. Szabo on April 19, 1952.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Jonette Eck.
Mrs. Szabo was a registered nurse at St. John’s Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Little Flower Church and Knights of Columbus 4179 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; two daughters, Cheryl Szabo of Chatham and Ann Szabo of Springfield; five sons, Carl E. (Hope) Szabo of Chatham, Mike, Kevin and Eddie (companion, Cheryl) Szabo, all of Springfield, and Joe Szabo of Windsor; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Chrystal, Justin, Kara, Ryan, Jeremy, Jessica, Daniel, Amie, Michael, Kyle, Kristen and Jason; 1 brother, Edward (Norma) Chasco of Chatham; several nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins, Joe Markovics and Father Bob Porter.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 12, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home with prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at Church of the Little Flower, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
