Doris E. Smith, 63, of Pawnee passed away at her home on Sunday, August 30, 2009, after a long fight with cancer.
Doris was born on November 10, 1945, in Springfield, to Charles and Ada Wilson; both parents preceded her in death. Doris married Roger E. Smith on January 12, 1991, at their home.
Surviving are her husband, Roger E. Smith Sr.; three daughters, Carol Lomelino of Pawnee, Julie (husband, Doug) Farrington of Lake Zurich and Kimberly (husband, Ed) Ealey of Springfield; two sons, James Day (fiancee, Amy) of Auburn and Roger (wife, Robin) Smith Jr. of Springfield; 12 grandchildren, Alyssa, Roger, Joe, Samantha, Jessie, Mathew, Isaac, Morgan, Kailey, Jada, Alizabeth and Shaynalynn; six great-grandchildren, Haley, Lane, Kaleb, Zachary, Olivia and Noah; one brother, Charles Wilson; and three sisters, Trena (husband, John) Krews, Donna Rutherford and Carol Chase, all of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Growing up, Doris attended Knox Presbyterian Church. She retired from Bank One after 26 years of service.
Doris loved spending time with her family, taking trips, camping in their motor home, Sudoku puzzles, and her two Dachshunds. She kept her great sense of humor and wit up till the end and was the bravest person we knew.
A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Harry L. Courtney will be officiating. Burial will be at Auburn Cemetery.
