Donald William Hoover, 88 of Springfield, died at 4:30 pm, Monday, October 2, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born March 10, 1929 in Browerville, MN to William and Helen Habus Hoover. He married Betty June Edmonds on December 9, 1950 and she preceded him in death on August 12, 2011.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Dr. Stephen) Wallace of Springfield; one son, D. Brent (Christine) Hoover of O’Fallon, MO; five grandchildren, Adam and Stephanie Wallace, Leigha Adelsberger, Tiffany Hoover and Alyssa (Mike) Baudendistel; eight great grandchildren, Leila Christine, Lincoln James, Cameron Joseph, Libby Mae, Finleigh Rose, Isabella June, Brandon Elijah and Caydon Brent; two brothers Leonti Koczur of Texas and John Koczur of Minnesota and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister. Zinona Farmer.
Donald was a very active member of Chatham Baptist Church where he served on various boards and committees and taught Sunday School for over fifty years. He was also active in Pastoral Care at memorial medical Center and help build many churches. He had a black belt in Tae Kwando and was a former Mason. He was an avid gardener.
He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Hoover retired from IBM after 30 years of service.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Friday, October 6, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Milton Bost officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chatham Baptist Church.
