Donald R. Edstrom, 84, of Springfield, died at 5:15 pm, Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born November 26, 1928 in Chicago to Helmer T. and Esther M. Scow Edstrom. Donald married Mary Lofquist on October 20, 1962 and she survives him.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rhonda (Gene) Moore, Donna (companion Troy Harris) Edstrom and Debbie (Scott) Hayes all of Springfield; two sons, Bill and Rick Edstrom, both of Springfield; six grandchildren, Gena and Gene Moore, Shawn Edstrom, Crystal Harris and Travis and Jared Hayes; three great grandchildren, Harmony and Gabriel Edstrom and Jason Moore; one brother, Ed Edstrom of Littleton, CO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gene and Roger Edstrom.
Donald was a United States Army Veteran and retired after 30 years of service as a driver with Springfield Mass Transit. He was also a member of the American Legion, UCT and he enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren, great grandchildren and even the grand dogs.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the U.S. Army will conduct military honors.
