Donald L. Waddell, 78, of Springfield, died at 2:42 am, Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born May 26, 1936 in Logan County, IL, to Loren G. and Elsie Gasaway Waddell. Don served in the Air Force, stationed in Michigan, for 4 years, and it was there that he met and married Angeline Shubert in July, 1960 in Bad Axe, Michigan. They were married for fifty-four years.
He is survived by his wife, Angie, a daughter, Julie Salmons and two grandchildren, Lizzie and Aiden Salmons of Des Plaines, IL. He is also survived by his brother, Loren Gene (Denise) Waddell, of Tucson, AZ, his twin sister, Donna Small of Springfield, and his younger sister, Kathy (Pascal) Vil, also of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Don enjoyed life to the fullest and had many friends. He was an active golfer his entire life and a baseball player in his youth. He lived for his daily golf after retirement in his senior years. He was a lifelong Cubs fan.
Staab Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A private graveside was held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
