Donald “Magoo” H. Magowan, 77, of Buffalo, died at 7:35 am, Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1934 in Effingham, Illinois to Donald S. and Lorna Sprinkle Magowan. He married Rose M. Runkels on March 27, 1960 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter Lisa (Brian) Hopper of Springfield; two sons, Michael (Fiancé’ Barb Pellman) Magowan of Rochester and David (Nancy) Magowan of Buffalo; ten grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Magowan of Elgin, IL; one brother Ken (Marilyn) Magowan of Walworth, WI; and several beloved sisters and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Magowan was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1957 -1959. He was a life time member of Operating Engineers Local #965. He formerly loved canoeing and deer hunting. His favorite hobby was spending time with his family and watching his grandkids play various sporting activities.
He worked for Operating Engineers Local #965 and retried from there in 1996.
Visitation: 4-7 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
The family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
