DAWSON – Donald Eugene Pinch Byers, 73, of Dawson, IL passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on March 25, 1937, in Decatur, IL to Clarence Raymond and Dorothy Marie Floyd Byers.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Pastor William Byers.
He is survived by 3 sons, Daniel Byers of Denver, CO, Todd (Michelle) Byers of Dawson and Donald S. (Becky) Byers of Dawson; seven grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Hall of Latham, IL and Nina (Pastor Greg) Lockett of Columbia, MO; 3 brothers, Clarence Sonny (Sonnie) Byers of Macon, Jack (Kay) Byers of Las Vegas, NV and Robert Byers of Harristown; 1 sister-in-law, Ginny Byers of Rapid City, SD; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Sandra Taapken of Springfield.
Donald worked at A.E. Staley and then owned a service station and restaurant in Buffalo and retired as a maintenance man at Tri City Schools. After retiring, he worked in the warehouse at Calhoun Mohawk Floorz.
He was a member of Buffalo Christian Church, Rocky Mount, MO, Amvets, Decatur American Legion, and Riverton Eagles Club. He enjoyed traveling, was a winter Texan, enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and swapping stories with his buddies.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Shanle officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Illinois Army National Guard will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Buffalo Christian Church.
