AUBURN – Donald Edwin Weitzel, 50, of Auburn passed away at 11:02 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital.
He was born Nov. 22, 1957, the son of Carl Thomas and Mary Alice Stevens Weitzel. He married Cheryl Lynn Earnest on July 5, 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Judy Weitzel and Mary VanAmburgh.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Amber Weitzel of Auburn; son, Zack Weitzel of Auburn; two sisters, Sally King of Paducah, Ky., and Carol (husband, Bill) Wendling of Springfield; three brothers, Tom (wife, Mary Ann) Weitzel and Rick (wife, Gina) Weitzel, all of Springfield and Jerry Weitzel of Indianapolis; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a resident of Auburn for nine years. He worked as a press operator for The State Journal-Register and previously owned Country Homes Sales and Service Co. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Auburn and the Printers Union.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the funeral home, with Msgr. John Ossola and the Rev. David VanBebber officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Weitzel Benefit Fund c/o Marine Bank or the American Cancer Society.
