SPRINGFIELD – Donald Edward Tipsword, 88, of Springfield, formerly of Dawson, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born March 2, 1921, in Macon County, the son of Louis E. Tipsword and Anna P. Swigert. He married Myrtle Crane on August 7, 1965; she preceded him in death.
Don worked as a self-employed upholsterer in Dawson, for over 25 years, owning his business next to PJ’s Lounge. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a lively polka dancer in Pana, and will be missed greatly.
He is survived by one brother, Gene Tipsword of Decatur; one daughter, Patricia Gurley (husband, David) of Springfield; and two grandsons, Robert Fickes Jr. and Darrin Fickes, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Staab Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
