Donald ‘Donnie’E. Carraro, 77, of Rochester, died at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, December 26, 2010 at his home. He was born August 5, 1933 in Springfield to Geno and Mary Kanger Carraro. He married Marlene M. Dodd on October 1, 1990 and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Craig A. and Ricardo Carraro both of Springfield; one daughter, Annie Carraro of Tampa, FL; one step-daughter, Tiffany (Jared) Baker of Springfield; two step-sons, John W. (Denise) Shea of Pawnee and William C. Shea of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Clint Carraro, Tyler Carraro, Andrea Carraro, Alex Calo, Valerie Carraro, Gillian Shea and Jordan Shea; one sister, Barbara Peterson of Madisonville, TN; one aunt, Theresa Carraro of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents; two sisters, Shirley and Marilyn Carraro and one grandson, Nicholas Carraro preceded him in death.
Donald was a U. S. Army Veteran, serving from 1953-1955 in Panama. He retired from the Springfield Police Department in 1987 and also worked as a master Terrazo installer working with Santa Rosa Company and Grimmett Company. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association and enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening.
Memorial Gathering: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home.
Interment: 10 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
