SPRINGFIELD – Donald C. Sidener, 82, of Springfield died at 6 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born June 30, 1926, in Springfield, the son of Chester and Elizabeth Peidl Sidener. He married Peggy J. O’Neill on May 29, 1954; she preceded in death on Jan. 8, 2007.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Roger Vogt.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet (husband, James) Kramp and Donna Vogt, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Matt (wife, Bailey) Kramp, Kristi Kramp, Steven (wife, Betsy) Vogt, Lisa (husband, Adam) Fowler and Timothy Vogt; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He worked for Sangamo Electric for 33 years. He worked at Ursuline Academy for one year and retired from First National Bank after 12 years as a courier.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Sangamo Electric Management Club, 40 year member of Springfield Bowling Association, and a former member of Knights of Columbus. He graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in Springfield. He was an avid Cardinal fan, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed bingo and loved his grandchildren dearly. Donald and Peggy enjoyed traveling; their favorite destination was Las Vegas.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Aloysius Church, with the Rev. Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
