Dixie J. Norton, 64, of Petersburg, died at 12:43 pm, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield. She was born June 28, 1946 in Albuquerque, NM to Wilson “Bud” and Frances Louise Gray Fulton. She married Gregory Norton on December 2, 1968 and he survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gregory V. (Stephanie) Norton of Niles, MI and Christopher (Charissa) Norton of Petersburg; two step children, Donald G. Norton of Antioch, CA, and Dori (Jim) Stuart of Valley Springs, CA; three grandchildren; one sister Onita S. Viramontes of Cottonwood, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Marjorie G. Wilburn.
Dixie worked for the Federal Aviation Administration, dedicating her life to Aviation Safety for over 30 years and was manager for the FAA Flight Standards District Office in Springfield for 13 years.
She was a Native American (Delaware Indian) and a registered member of the Lumbee Tribe in Northern California; was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Petersburg and loved horses and animals.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Thursday, March 3, 2011 at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman.
Funeral Mass: A private family funeral mass will be held with Monsignor Carl Kemme officiating. Burial will be in Sts Peter and Paul Cemetery in Weyerhaeuser, WI at a later date.
