Dennis W. King, 76, of Springfield died at 9:27 am, Friday, July 6, 2018, at his home. He was born on September 30, 1941 in Carterville, IL to Dennis Cromwell and Flonnie Mae (Dollar) King. He married Twyla Marie Williams on August 10, 1963 and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2003.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters.

He is survived by one daughter, Kelly (Jerry) Meneghetti and their two daughters, Cheyenne and Raleigh of Rochester; one son, Denny King (fiancé, Amy Hampton) of Springfield and their two daughters, Krystin and Shayne, and one brother, Harold Deck of Williamsville.

Dennis was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a resident of Springfield for the past 15 years and was previously from Williamsville. He was a Telecommunicator for the Illinois State Police District 9, retiring in 1998 after 30 years of service. He was involved in the AFSCME initial contract for the State of Illinois for Illinois State Police Telecommunicators. Dennis was a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed building model airplanes, fishing, camping, woodworking and having fun spending time with his family.

Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.

Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
