David T. Martin, 62, of Springfield died peacefully in his sleep after a courageous battle with cancer at 10:40 am Sunday, October 27, 2013 at his home.
He was born November 21, 1950 in Chicago, IL to John D. and Eileen Toomey Martin. He married Mary Beth Senger on June 7, 1975. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Jean Marie Martin.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Beth; a son, Joseph (companion, Grace Zhou) Martin of Springfield; three sisters, Carol (Dr. Thomas) Roeder of San Rafael, CA, Judy (Allan Neustadter) Martin of Leesburg, VA and Ellen M. Martin of Carmel, CA; four brothers, John D. Martin, Jr. of Springfield, Gary J. (Kathleen) Martin of Crete, NE and Timothy J. and Michael Martin, both of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Frank (Theresa) Senger of Astoria, NY and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a caring and loving husband and father and was a friend to everyone he met. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #32. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved watching the History Channel and working on cars. David worked for City Water Light and Power for 41 years as a mechanic. He loved his work and continued until his death.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 11 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant and Reverend Joe Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.
