David A. Loebach, Ed.D., 68, soldier, public administrator, trainer and arbitrator, devoted father and “Opa”, died Friday, January 30, 2015, at 4:30 p.m., at Memorial Medical Center.
David was born to Richard H. and Sophie (Stor) Loebach on June 27, 1946 in St. Mary’s Hospital, LaSalle, Illinois. In 1976, he married Shelli Denison. They divorced in 1991.
He is survived by their children: Katharine Carol (Todd) Hertz of Geneva, IL, Rachel Elizabeth (Michael) Tomasek of Sugar Grove, IL, granddaughter Elizabeth Hertz; three brothers: John (Ruth), Gregory (Carrie), Rick Loebach, one sister, Marian Loebach, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He received his education at St. Bede Academy, Peru, IL; the University of Illinois in Champaign and Springfield, and his doctorate studies at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL.
During his lifetime, David established leadership roles throughout his active days. At the age of 14 he earned a trophy and trip to Washington, DC for the sales of the LaSalle News Tribune and various magazines. At 17, he received the St. Bede “Senior of the Year” award for his work to establish student government at the Academy. In his post-college years he entered the U.S. Army as a Career Resource Officer and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1972 he was overseas in Korea, worked at the Pentagon from 1984-1985 and from 1984-1989 he taught ROTC.
David was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where he founded the Cathedral Men’s Club. He continued sharing his leadership wisdom as a labor management Arbitrator after retirement from the State of Illinois as a recognized trainer. David was also active in charitable endeavors through the Knights of Columbus, the Central Illinois Blood Bank in Springfield, IL where he was a 16 gallon donor. He received numerous Veteran of Foreign Wars certificates of appreciation for his public service.
Visitation: 3–6 pm Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 3 pm.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 am Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Seth Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
