David Henry Lewis II, 84, of Rochester, died at Bridge Care Suites at 7:15 am, Tuesday, January 3, 2017. He was born on February 25, 1932 in St. Louis, MO to Henry David and Lola Fay Cowell Lewis and they precede him in death.

He married Shirley Marie Tucker on January 7, 1956 and she survives.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Linda Lewis of Fayetteville, AR and Tracy (Greg) Dunn of Rochester; one son, Dave (Alice) Lewis III of Sarasota, FL; six grandchildren, Austin Dunn of Rochester, Michelle (Matt) Newman, MD of Chicago, Travis Milliron, Sarah Lewis, Addison and Samantha Lewis all of Sarasota, FL.

David was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #149 in Effingham and Valley of Springfield. During his term in the Attorney General’s Office he also served as Chairman of the Board of the Effingham County Memorial Airport and was a member of the American Association of Airport Executives, Illinois Aeronautical Advisory Board (Gubernatorial Appointment), National Association of State Aviation Officials, O’Hare Airport Advisory Board and O’Hare Noise Abatement Subcommittee. David retired after 21 years of service as the Deputy Director, Division of Aeronautics for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Memorial Gathering: 2 – 5 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home -Springfield.

Memorial Service: 5 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Trajan Iliff McGill officiating. Military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
