Daisy Marie Miller-Dawson, 94 of Springfield died at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Memorial Medical Center. Daisy was born on January 9, 1915 in Vermillion County, Illinois to Samuel and Ethel Owens Applegate. She married Paul Miller in 1933, he preceded her in death in 1954. She married Floyd Dawson in 1958, he preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Dawson is also preceded in death by two sons: Paul Glenn Miller, David Eugene Miller, two daughters: Lois Jean Miller, and Paula Perko, two brothers: Walter and William Applegate, one sister: Hazel Applegate, one grandson: Rodney Peavy, and one son-in-law: Bill Cody.
Daisy is survived by her five daughters: Joyce (Rutherford) Rhodes of New Berlin, Virginia Cody of Springfield, Martha (Larry) Ketchum of Rochester, Mary (Dan) Deatherage of Springfield, and Gladys Koonce of Springfield; one son: Richard (Carolyn) Miller of Springfield; 30 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a charter member of Southside Church of the Nazarene and is a current member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. She served as a former Sunday school teacher and enjoyed sewing, embroidering, reading, camping, and fishing. Daisy raised her children and was a homemaker for many years. She also worked for the Illinois State Museum Society for 10 years, retiring in 1973.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Staab Funeral Home. Daisy will lie in state from 10:15-10:45 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2009 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Pastor Ron Waltrip will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park
