Connie M. O’Rourke Moscardelli, 84, of Springfield, died Sunday morning, May 11, 2008, at her residence.
She was born April 26, 1924, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Roy C. and Irene Slack Browne. She married Eugene J. O’Rourke on Sept. 25, 1944, and he preceded her in death Jan. 17, 2000. She then married Al Moscardelli on Feb. 27, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Al Moscardelli of Springfield; one daughter, Caroline Carrie (husband, Bob) Santos of Springfield; three sons, Michael D. (wife, Ann) O’Rourke of West Covina, Calif., Stephen E. (wife, Tina) O’Rourke of New Port Beach, Calif., and Timothy J. (wife, Landria) O’Rourke of Atlanta, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kahre of St. Peters, Mo.; two brothers, Frank Browne of Augusta, Ga., and Ralph (wife, Jennifer) Browne of Oceanside, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and two brothers, Claude and Jack Browne.
Mrs. Moscardelli had resided in Springfield since 1980, and was formerly of the St. Louis area and Jacksonville. She attended MacMurray College and graduated from Sangamon State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. While attending Sangamon State University, she also pursued graduate studies in gerontology. She worked for the Department on Aging for the State of Illinois in Long term Care Division, retiring after many years of service. She was a member of St. Agnes Church in Springfield, AARP and Zonta club. She was an Alzheimer’s Association Support Leader, an avid bridge player and world traveler.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, with Prayers at 5 p.m. Memorials are suggested to SIU for Alzheimer’s or Cancer Research.
