Clarence Y. Snyder, 81, of Springfield died at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. He was born May 20, 1932 in Springfield, IL to Matthew and Mary Veseling Snyder. He married his wife of 60 years, Doris L. Barlow, on May 7, 1953 and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter: Deborah A. (Rob) Coons of Springfield; three sons: Matthew W. (Companion: Debbie Anderson) Snyder of Springfield; Gary P. (Mary) Snyder of West Melbourne, FL and David D. Snyder of Springfield; three grandchildren: Matthew J. Snyder, Brianna M. Coons and Christopher M. Snyder; one great-grandson, Gabriel and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Mary Tebrugge and two brothers: Paul and Robert Snyder.
Clarence was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed woodworking and scroll sawing. He was a precinct committeeman for many years. He worked for the Boys Club and St. Joseph’s School. He was a member of the Men’s Club at St. Patrick’s Church and the Illinois Police Association. He was a special deputy sheriff, Springfield auxiliary policeman and a Grandview police officer. He was also a graduate of Feitshans High School. He worked for Allis Chalmers/Fiat Allis for 35 years.

Visitation: 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00 p.m.

Lie-in-state: 10:00-10:30 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Peter Harman officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Parish Restoration Fund or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
