Christine Shudrowitz, 90, of Springfield, died at 8:52 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 at her home. She was born December 3, 1923 in West Frankfort, IL, to Vernon and Elizabeth Applegate Hinton. She married Jerome “Jerry” William Shudrowitz on August 10, 1946 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2004.
Survivors include one daughter, Jill Harris of Springfield; three sons, Les Shudrowitz, Gary (Linda) Shudrowitz and Jack (Michelle) Shudrowitz all of Springfield; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Charles E. and Vernon E. Hinton.
Christine was a 1941 graduate of Edinburg High School and attended three years of nursing school. She was a homemaker and had worked for the Secretary of State. She was a veteran of WWII where she served as a nurse in the WAVES.
She was very family oriented; loved gardening and was formerly a member of the Jr. Women’s Club and volunteered at St. John’s Hospital as a Samaritan.
Memorial Gathering: 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Additional Memorial Gathering: 11-11:30 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Church of the Little Flower.
Memorial Mass: 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Church of the Little Flower with Monsignor John Ossola officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Memorial Gardens or Memorial Home Hospice.
