Christa Barbara Hofmann Bailey passed into the waiting arms of her Lord on March 6, 2013. She was born on March 12, 1942 in Nurnberg, Germany. Christa immigrated to Mt. Sterling, Illinois, with her mother Auguste Clark on March 6, 1953, exactly 60 years prior to her death. One of the proudest moments in her life was achieving citizenship in 1962.
Christa was the first Brown County fair queen, taught Sunday school, traveled to Costa Rica on a mission trip, and even coached a softball team in her early years. She received her training as a beautician at the Flamingo School of Cosmetology in Jacksonville, IL. For 50 years she served numerous clients in her Salon “Christa’s Coiffure” some of whom were with her over 40 years, only giving up the business when she suffered a stroke in July 2012. Christa was very proud of her flower garden, where in the summer months she would spend hours tending to their care. Those that knew her would have described her as a independent, strong, stubborn, German woman who did so much for others never asking for anything in return.
She leaves to mourn her loss: son Jeffery Clark Bailey; daughter Jennifer Jane Bailey DeSart (husband Rick); and grandchildren Emma Bailey and Kyle and Nicolas DeSart. She is also survived by her Big Sister, Beatrice Power (Glen) Ft. Pierce, FL and her Baby Sister, Karin Gustafson (Nels) Bradenton, FL.
