Charles Vernon Woodworth, 93, of Springfield, Illinois left this life on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at home with his family by his side.
Charles was born April 16, 1923 in Macomb, Illinois to Charles S. and Florence Woodworth. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Francis; second wife, Thelma (Dickerson) Woodworth, who was the mother of his son; and his companion of many years, Eleanor Brady.
Charles is survived by his wife, Reba Jean Woodworth; son, Barry; daughter-in-law, Joanne; grandchildren, Rachel and Jason; three stepchildren, LeeAnn Egherman (Mick Greenberg), Monte (Kristy) Egherman, and Tracy (Jim) Prow; six step-grandchildren; niece, Linda Barnett and her children, Amanda and Matthew.
Charles originally married Reba (Tatham), his current wife, on Christmas Day in 1947. After a few years they went their separate ways, but were reunited in marriage on September 10, 2005.
Charles was an infantryman in WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He served in Japan during the Korean War. Charles spent his life in service to his county as a full time member of the Army National Guard. He retired from the Illinois National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major.
He was involved in many patriotic and charitable organizations in both Macomb and Springfield.
