Charles R. Grubb
SPRINGFIELD – Charles R. Grubb, 89, of Springfield died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born June 18, 1919, in Rochester, the son of John H. and Naomi Clark Grubb. He married Betty L. Chandler on July 22, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Grubb of Springfield; a son, David L. (wife, Arlene) Grubb of Rochester; two granddaughters, Courtney (husband, Bill) Peters of New Berlin and Erika (husband, Brian) Metz of Rochester; three great-grandchildren, Katelin, Caroline and Wyatt; a sister, Margaret Dannenberger of Rochester; a niece; and several nephews.
Charles had been a resident of Springfield since the mid-40s. He worked at Sangamo Electric for 33 years in the shipping department and later at Garrett Aviation, also in the shipping department.
A U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, he was in the first wave of the assault on Utah beach on D-Day. He was a member of Masonic Lodge AF&AM 4.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Rochester Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial will be at Rochester Cemetery.
