GREAT FALLS, Va. – Charles Edward Gravit, 94, of Great Falls, VA, formerly of Springfield, IL, died at 10:42 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Sunrise Assisted Living. He was born November 11, 1915, in Higby, MO, to Lloyd and Irene Bohanon Gravit. He married Julia Ann Gortz in 1936; she preceded him in death in 2000. He is also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary; and a sister, Velma.
Charles is survived by his son, Mark (Aleisha) Gravit of Great Falls, VA; and a grandson, Michael (Carolyn) Gravit of Denver, CO.
He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army, and a member of the Elks Club. Charles was a lifelong boater and fisherman, a sport both he and Julia enjoyed for decades. In his younger years, he was an avid motorcyclist, and enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes. He retired from Amoco Oil as a sales agent.
The family will be gathering at Staab Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010, and will depart for the cemetery at 10:10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends are welcome to join the procession to Roselawn Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.
