Charles “Charlie” Kenneth Ray, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 28, 1937 in Springfield, IL, the son of Kenneth and Maxine (McClain) Ray.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis Alan (Kym) Ray of Plano, IL, Jeffrey Curtis Ray of Earlville, IL, and David Anthony Ray of Oswego, IL; seven grandchildren, Austin Ray, Reaghann (Tyler) Grigsby, Ryland Ray, Londynn Ray, Emerson Ray, Josie Ray, and Rowan Ray; one great-grandchild, Kovynn Keiko Grigsby; one sister, Carolyn Cavallone of North Carolina; one brother, Jimmy Ray of Laurie, Missouri and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Ray of Sherman, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Wyatt; and three brothers, Jack, Roger and Mike Ray.
Charlie was a graduate of Riverton Community High School and then joined the United States Air Force in 1960. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1964. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. and retired after 30 years of service.
Charlie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, watching the games any chance he could. He was also an accomplished woodworker, making many rocking horses for his grandkids. He was skilled in the art of stained glass as well.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Frank Koehler officiating.
