SPRINGFIELD – Charlene Char J. Kennedy, 79, of Springfield died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center as a result of acute leukemia.
She was born July 25, 1930, in Springfield, to Samuel and Emma Craig Hammond; they preceded her in death. She married George R. Kennedy on Aug. 28, 1976.
She is survived by her husband, George R. Kennedy of Springfield; two daughters, Laura (Brad) Sayers and Janet Leigh Kennedy, both of Springfield; a son, Doug (Karen) Williams of Springfield; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Cathryn and Emma; two sisters, Sandra (Tom) Wilson of East Alton and Juliane (Joe) Baughman of Yakima, Wash.; two nieces and one nephew.
Char was a lifelong resident of Springfield.
She was president of Creative Bath and Brass and vice president of Kennedy Kitchens.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Zonta International, Springfield Ceramic and Crafts, Friends of Lincoln Memorial Garden, Women’s Club, Daughter of the Nile ABEBA Temple 42, and Brinkerhoff Foundation. She enjoyed gardening, working with ceramics, arts and crafts, and cooking.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday March 12, 2010, at Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Tournoux officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Lincoln Memorial Garden.
