SPRINGFIELD – Cecil Earl Smith, 73, of Springfield died at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1936, in Manchester, the son of Eugene and Irene Haney Smith. He married Patsy Hankins on July 25, 1958.
He was preceded in death his father.
He survived by his wife, Patsy Smith of Springfield; two daughters, Terri Wiese (fiance, Kendal Kett) of Springfield and Lori (Mark) Stevens of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Lindsay (Jimmy) Guikema and Hunter Stevens; three brothers, Haney (Pauline) Smith and Blaine (Virginia) Smith, both of Waverly, and Gary (Carol) Smith of California; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and mother, Irene Richardson of Jacksonville.
Cecil was a resident of Springfield since 1963.
He worked for UPS for eight years. He was an insurance agent for 30 years and worked at Smith’s Baby Furniture for 14 years. Cecil and Pat also ran Smith’s Furniture and Smith’s Soft Serve on the Square of Virden for a number of years.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of AMVETS. Cecil graduated from Waverly High School in 1954. He was an avid Cardinals and NASCAR fan.
Private services were held, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial was at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail conducted military honors.
