Cecil A. Funk, 92, of Springfield, died at 8:40 am, Friday, July 15, 2011 at Springfield Care Center. He was born June 29, 1919 in Funkhouser, IL to William R. and Emma Bell Forbes Funk. He married Patty A. Miller-Winn on September 18, 1982.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one son, Dennis E. Funk. He is survived by his wife, Patty A. Funk, his children, Joan (Howard) Spain, of Springfield, Cecilia (Emery) Johnson of York, Cecil A. (Cathy) Funk, II of Riverton, Patty (Cliff) Lindley of Ladd, Debra (Jim) Wood of Danville, Dennis (Cindy) Winn of Chapel Hill, TN, Don (Kelly) Winn of Raleigh, NC, Lynette (Kenny) McCoy of Danville, Kimberly (Larry) Harper of Danville, Nanette (Sean) Sotudeh of Phoenix, AZ, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cecil was a member of Calvary Temple Church and VFW #755. He served in the Army during WWII in the 164th Infantry Americal Division, South Pacific Special Forces – Ranger Unit. Cecil was wounded by a mortar while in a foxhole and received a Purple Heart. Cecil was a coal miner, house painter and later worked at Friendly Chevrolet for 30 years in the autobody department. He was a resident of Springfield since 1949.
Visitation: 5-7pm, Monday, July 18, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Temple Church.
