PALATINE – Catherine Kate Ruth Hunter, 88, of Palatine, formerly of Springfield, passed away Thursday afternoon at her home in Palatine.
She was born in Palestine, Ark. October 13, 1920, the daughter of Lawrence Haskell Huitt and Bertha Ruth Hutchings Huitt. She married Edward A. Hunter in San Francisco, Calif. on April 7, 1944.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, L. Harold Huitt; and a sister, Dorothy Huitt Springfloat.
Kate attended Springfield schools, graduating from Springfield High School in 1940. Until age and arthritis slowed her down she was an avid crafter and was well known for her contributions to the craft sales at the Palatine Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Edward A. Hunter; son, Ray Hunter, both of Palatine; a sister, Thelma Beatrice Huitt Fee, of Springfield; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, with Sue Sawers, CLP officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
