SPRINGFIELD – Catherine B. Secker, 93, of Springfield died at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Niantic, the daughter of Albert M. and Caroline Carrie Lochbaum Combs. She married William Secker on Aug. 8, 1945; he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1976.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Glenn, Edgar and Robert Combs; a sister, Margaret Baldwin; and a grandson, Chad Kusturin.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Bill) Kusturin of Springfield; a son, Bill (Marie) Secker of Springfield; four grandchildren, Carrie (Christian), Michael, Todd (Shelley) and Tracie (Dean); six great-grandchildren, Katie, Nathan, Jessica, Cooper, Skylar and Olivia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She worked for the Illinois secretary of state’s office as a file clerk, she then worked for CWLP as a telephone operator. In 1981 she returned to the state of Illinois Department of Revenue as an office clerk.
Catherine was a member of Kumler United Methodist Church, AARP, Kumler Ready Server’s Sunday Morning Class. She loved traveling, working word searches, playing bingo and spending time with all of her family.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Poole officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Kumler United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
