Carlos A. Carter, 84, of Riverton, died at 5:34 am, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 1, 1927 in Ellsinore, MO to Anuil and Flora Crites Carter. He married Essie Mae Bowman on February 20, 1945 and she survives.
Also surviving are three children, Shirley J. (William) Cooper of Riverton, Ronald D. (Debra) Carter of Springfield and Rick (Trish) Carter of Springfield; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Viola Boaz of St. Louis, MO; two brothers, Calvin and Carl Carter both of St. Louis, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, one son Billy Ray Carter and eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Carlos was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran serving in Japan during WWII. He was a member of South Seventh Street Assembly of God Church where he served as a deacon. Carlos was a loving husband and his whole life was dedicated to his family.
He was a resident of Riverton for 26 years and formerly of Springfield for most of his life. Carlos saw milled with all of his brothers in Missouri, until he moved to Illinois. He worked with his brother Luke at Carter Brothers Lumber until 1974. After retirement he owned and operated a motel and other properties along with his family.
Visitation: 5-7 pm, Monday, July 25, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Conway officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
