Carl H. “Boe” Burt, Sr., 81, of Springfield, died at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born July 28, 1931 in Springfield, IL to Russell E. and Agnus Krebs Burt. He married Henrietta Maher on September 1, 1949 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2012. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Helen Painter and Bertha Reeves and two brothers, Robert and Raymond Burt.
Surviving are two daughters, Colleen (David) Whitmore of Riverton and Brenda (George) Wheeler of Springfield; one son, Carl (Jacie) Burt Jr. of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Erica (Joe) Carrigan, Amanda Whitmore, Alissa (Jon) Hanson, David Whitmore, Jr., Andrew M. (Sarah) Wheeler, Jennifer R. Wheeler, McKenna Lee Burt and Chloe Louise Burt; four great grandchildren, Devon and Joey Varela and Joshawa and Wyatt Carrigan; one brother, Russell E. Burt, Jr. of Riverton and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burt was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He lived in Springfield all of his life. Mr. Burt was a man of many talents which included farming and a long time employee of the Poston Brick Company. He briefly worked at the US Post office prior to owning and operating BRK electronics as well as being a contract driver for the State Journal Register. Mr. Burt retired from Burt’s Greenhouse after owning and operating it with his wife for 25 years.
Mr. Burt was a member of Church of the Little Flower, American Legion Post #32 and the AMVETS. During his retirement, he enjoyed being a snowbird in Florida for many years as well as camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Deacon Greg Parquett and Dee Stern officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
